  I enjoy visiting heritage sites, learning about the history in the local area. This site is outside the "museum" and is free to access. Currently under restoration which is great to see.

  Gray’s Store, a two story residence with adjoining single story store, constructed of rubble limestone walls with wooden floors and roof structure and shingled roof cladding, together with a walled yard, is significant for the following reasons:
  
  The place is part of a cultural landscape involving a rural setting with numerous historic structures and few modern intrusions and together with the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel is a well - known landmark in this setting;
  
  The Georgian elegance of the buildings architecture, its distinctive profile, and its beautiful stonework, lend the place considerable visual appeal;
  
  The place is one of few remaining general stores dating to the first four decades of the settlement in Western Australia, and possibly the only surviving store of this period to have an adjoining residence;
  
  The building is among the oldest in the region, and provides tangible evidence of the period in Western Australia’s history when the Greenough Flats were the frontier of colonial expansion;
  
  The building and walled yard contribute importantly to the community’s sense of place, and as a monument has the potential to increase local and visitor awareness of the history of the Greenough Front Flats;
  
  The scale of the building expresses the optimism that early settlers held for the economic prosperity of the region and its siting is evidence of the initial moves to establish a township on Company Road;
  
  The masonry is an outstanding example of the quality of building work that was being produced in the colony during the years that convict labour was available;
  
  The external and internal form of the building is evidence of an early phase in the development of Australian architecture during which European influences were dominant;
  
  The place is associated with Henry Gray who was one of the first merchants to establish a business in the Mid-West region, and,
  
  Gray’s Store is believed to be the point from which the Walkaway Burr was originally distributed in the Greenough area.
